May's Cape Cod Rail Trail Trip - This Weekend!

We're excited to announce a weekend bike trip on Cape Cod, May 16-17!

Important request: Not all of our regular adult volunteers are available for this trip, and we need more adults than usual. Parents, if you can attend this trip, please check the box on the registration form that a parent will be attending and text Isaac Burk at 978-294-9440 to discuss how you can contribute to your Scout's journey. (Note, all parents attending overnight trips must be registered as adult volunteers with Scouting America.)

Outing: Cape Cod Rail Trail Bike Trip - Camp Greenough in Yarmouth, MA

Depart from Abbot School: 8 AM on Saturday, May 16th (we need car pool help and bike racks)

Estimated return to Abbot: 11 AM on Sunday, May 17th

Cost:

$50 with own bike for overnight camping, lunch, dinner, cracker barrel & Breakfast
$75 rent a bike from the camp plus overnight camping, lunch, dinner, cracker barrel & Breakfast

Overview: The May trip will be tent camping at Camp Greenough on Cape Cod.

It's a chance to exercise your bike skills as we bike from Camp Greenough to Cobies, a seafood and ice cream stand directly on the Cape Cod Rail Trail. There will be some Scout skill checks along the way so Be Prepared. We'll have a prep sheet with references to the scout book for them to prepare on the ride down. When we return to camp from our bike trip, we'll play some games until dinner time. There will be some campfire skits and perhaps a story along with our traditional cracker barrel.

Equipment: Please see the Scout Troop 437 | Camping Essentials page on our website. The Troop has tents and sleeping bags available for borrowing along with some other gear. If you want to borrow equipment, please talk to the quartermaster or a scoutmaster at a Troop meeting. You can bring your own bike with helmet or rent one from Camp Greenough, arranged through Isaac Burk. If anyone needs bicycle lessons, please reach out as we can support getting them riding pretty quickly but it needs to be ahead of the trip.

Parent Participation: As mention, we need your help for this trip so please join us by indicating you'll be attending and reaching out to Isaac via text at the number below. Please start with T437 in your text along with your name.

Summer Camp 2026 - Still time to sign up!

Troop 437 will attend Summer Camp from July 26th to August 1st. We will once again attend Camp Wanocksett.

What: A week of adventure, advancement, and scouting at the foot of Mt. Monadnock

Where: Camp Wanocksett, 642 Upper Jaffrey RD, Dublin, NH 03444

When: Sunday, July 26th to Saturday, August 1st

Cost: The week of summer camp costs $630. However, if paid to the Troop by April 9th, there is an early-bird discount of $35, making the camp fee $595. Assistance is available if needed - we want every scout to experience summer camp!

Hello Scout Parents!

We are holding a parent meeting on May 7th during the Troop meeting. The scouts will be engaged in an outdoor activity for the meeting, and we will hold the parent meeting inside the Legion Hall. This meeting will include a presentation on basic Troop and Scout information, upcoming Troop plans, and time for questions and answers.

Parents of new scouts are particularly asked to attend, but all parents are invited.

Trying to figure out Scouting? Have questions about summer camp? What are all the ranks about? Questions about how the Troop runs? Come and get some answers!

What: Parents Information Meeting

When: Thursday 5/7 7:00pm

Where: Legion Function Hall

In case of rain, the meeting will be postponed so the scouts can hold their meeting indoors.

Bike Sale this weekend! Call for help Friday and Saturday!

Hello Troop 437 Scouts and Parents!

This Saturday (5/2) is our annual Bike Sale and Sporting Goods Sale. This is the only fundraiser for the Troop. We have been collecting a lot of donated bikes and sporting goods, and more will be coming in on Friday and Saturday. The sale attracts a lot of people from Westford and the surrounding towns.

To make this work, we need everyone in the Troop to help out - that includes scouts and parents. This is an All-Hands-On-Deck event. This is a good opportunity for all parents to help support the troop. It looks like the weather will be nice, and we will have a good time on Westford Common.

There are many opportunities to help - please check out the signup link below.

In particular, we need:

More adults and scouts to help Saturday morning during the setup, and the beginning of the sale, which is always the busiest.
Baked goods for our bake sale
Anyone with a truck, van, or trailer to help transport bikes and sporting goods

The Bake Sale will be returning to the Bike Sale this year!

Please consider donating baked goods for the troop to sell at the bike sale. We are looking for all kinds of donations of sweet and/or savory items: cookies, brownies, cupcakes, loaves of bread, etc.

Donations can be dropped off to the American Legion on Friday, May 1 from 5:30-7:30PM or between 7AM-9AM on May 2 at the common (the day of the sale).

Learn Bike Repair on April 18

The Bike Sale committee is holding a Bike Repair session on Saturday, April 18, from 9 am to 12 pm at Jess Anderson's house. Do you have experience with minor bike repairs? Or would you like to learn? We will have several Scout leaders who are experienced with bike repair there!

Please join us to help evaluate donated bikes, perform minor repairs, and learn all kinds of repair techniques. This session will be especially helpful for Scouts and adults who would like to go on our May Bike Trip on Cape Cod!

April Camping Trip - Badge Bonanza and Iron Chef - April 11th/12th

Outing: Camp Resolute in Bolton, MA

Arrive at Resolute: 10 AM on Saturday, April 11th

Pickup at Resolute: 10 AM on Sunday, April 12th

Cost: $25 for overnight camping, lunch, dinner, cracker barrel & breakfast

Overview: This trip will be tent camping at the Resolute Scout Reservation. This campout will be a great opportunity for our new cross-over scouts to join in all the fun of camping with Troop 437.

This trip will feature a Merit Badge Bonanza, where several merit badges that can be completed in one day will be offered. We hope all scouts can complete one or two badges at this campout. An exact list of badges that will be offered will be announced as the trip approaches.

The patrols will also be competing in an Iron Chef cooking competition! Does your patrol have what it takes to wow and delight the judges with your culinary skills and teamwork?

There will also be our usual evening campfire and a likely opportunity for board or card games. Bring your favorite game to share with your fellow scouts!

Parent Participation: Per BSA guidelines, any parent wishing to camp overnight at a scout event must be a registered adult with the BSA. Please see the details on our website at Scout Troop 437 | Adult Registration (westfordtroop437.us).

Camp Resolute Address: 75 Hudson Rd, Bolton, MA 01740, which is approximately 25 minutes from Westford.

Map of Camp Resolute - we are camping at the Rifle Range, which will be a 5-minute walk from the campsite. The camp has some carts for equipment.

This is a drop-off/pick-up on-site event. You’re welcome to talk to your scout’s friends about carpooling. If you have any questions, contact Andy McKeen.
