This is an “almost winter” backpacking trip! The hut is a short 1.6 mile hike over moderate terrain (with potential for snow/ice). This is a chance to experience the beauty of the White Mountains without the crowds. The Appalachian Mountain Club (AMC) huts provide a unique experience -- we will likely be hiking in winter weather with the opportunity to carry a lighter load due to the hut’s amenities. No tents are needed, but a warm sleeping bag is suggested since the bunkrooms do not get too warm from the woodstove. We will be able to use the hut’s kitchen for meal preparation, so limited cooking equipment is required.
Important Note: All participants must be prepared for cold weather!!! You must have sturdy, warm hiking footwear, and are strongly encouraged to have micro spikes. Many layers are a necessity as well as extra socks, hats/mittens, and standard backpacking equipment.
A daypack is suggested if you want to explore the surrounding area. Opportunities in the hut include board/card games, campfire programs, other pre-planned activities.

Troop 437 will be walking along the Battle Road followed taken by the British on their attack of Revolutionary fighters on April 17, 1775, and on along which they retreated later that same day. Along the path, the Scouts will see a number of historic buildings. We hope to have a special guest and local historical expert join us on the trip to serve as our tour guide.
We will meet on the Lexington Green at 9AM and walk the 7.5 miles to the Old North Bridge in Concord. The trail is clear, well marked and relatively easy. Parents, if ever you’ve wanted to join you scout on one of our outings without having to commit to spending the night sleeping in a tent, this is an excellent chance to do so.
Scouts: This trip satisfies requirement 2A and possibly parts of 2D for the Eagle required merit badge Citizenship in the Nation…BUT ONLY IF YOU GET A BLUE CARD AHEAD OF TIME. See Mr McKeen if you need a blue card for this merit badge. Also, scouts working on 2nd Class rank, if you bring a compass you can complete requirement 3B: “Using a compass and map together take a 5 mile hike.”
FOOD Attendees should pack a bag lunch and bring water (at least 2 litres) for the trail we will stop to eat at some point along the way to eat. Additionally, the troop will provide some snacks for the trail.
Seasonally Appropriate Clothing Required: BE PREPARED! Although we will be walking the trail used for the Battle of Lexington and Concord on April 19, 1775, the weather is expected to me reminiscent of Valley Forge.
